about

Here's the story behind Second Chances:

At the time, my friend's 17 year-old son, Matt had just overdosed on heroin. Since my younger brother died of an unintentional opioid overdose, I was in deep pain for both my friend and Matt. Fortunately, Matt lived and is still alive. The lyrics, "you probably can't see the bruises on my heart. I've carried these regrets for so long, they've left a permanent mark" came from me imagining what Matt was feeling. He had been struggling with addiction for several years and had been in and out of rehab and I was hoping that he would find the courage and strength within to 'climb the mountain and reach the other side'. I knew he had 'no more excuses' and 'nothing left to hide'.

I think most of us can relate to 'second chances' in our lives whether from addiction, a broken relationship, an illness or even a dream we've been too scared to chase. Since the death of my brother, I refuse to let life pass me by. I'm committed to loving fiercely, dreaming big, and never taking one minute for granted. My hope is that the song, Second Chances will resonate with people on a heart level and inspire them to wake up to the precious life we've been given to live. To reach deep inside and move past fear and shame and anything else that may be holding us back from recognizing the gifts we were intended to give and receive from this world.

I wish I could take credit for writing the music for Second Chances, but I can't. The music was written by my friend and fellow songwriter, Jon Fields, and I wrote the lyrics. When Jon sent me the music, I was immediately moved at a soul level. I couldn't stop listening to it - it was that powerful. When my producer, Kevin McNoldy stepped in - the music became even more powerful. This one was a team effort, for sure. It's become one of my favorites.

lyrics

Verse 1:
You probably can't see the bruises on my heart.
I've carried these regrets for so long - they've left a permanent mark.
I know I've hurt you
Well, I've hurt me, too.
Sometimes you've got to fall pretty hard to learn a lesson or two.

CHORUS:
Second chances
I've had a few.
Second chances
And I lied to me and you
Second chances
Can I have just one more before you close the door?

Verse 2:
Got the road behind me.
Got the road ahead.
And I've got a ton of broken promises runnin' through my head.

CHORUS:

Second chances
I've had a few.
Second chances
And I lied to me and you
Second chances
Can I have just one more before you close the door?

Bridge:
I'm gonna climb that mountain til' I reach the other side.
No more excuses. Got nothin' left to hide.

CHORUS:
Second chances
I've had a few.
Second chances
And I lied to me and you
Second chances
Can I have just one more before you close the door?
