On August 14, 2010 my younger brother, Jeremy died from an accidental opioid overdose. Since 2010 – the year he died, August 14th will forever represent to me awakenings and re-awakenings. His death awakened me to a depth of heartbreak I had never experienced before and, it also, thankfully, re-awakened my passion and need for songwriting – which has been my most trusted and sacred friend since I was a kid. To me, songs remind us on a soul level that we’re alive. So, naturally when my brother died I needed songs more than I needed anything else.
Saturday was the day he died.

The dragonfly artwork used on my album cover and for this song was
created by my childhood friend, Jackie Tury
Jackie lived on the same street I did in Woodbridge, VA
when we were but wee little kids riding big wheels,
going to the pool and throwing rotten tomatoes at houses
(unbenownst to our parents). We went our separate ways when our family moved from the neighborhood and reconnected a few years ago on Facebook. I couldn't have asked for a better person or artist to create this transformational symbol honoring Jeremy.
